Want to knit? These shawl knitting instructions will put you in threads in no time at all.
Shawl Knitting Instructions No. 1
In order to knit this shawl, you will need weight category 4 yarn, size 8 knitting needles and a large-eye blunt needle. Gauge is 20 stitches = 4 inches.
Cast on 81 stitches.
On the first row, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1 until the row is finished.
On the second row, knit all of the way across.
Continue to knit in this pattern until you have the length that you like. Then bind off and weave in the ends.
If you would like to add more complexity to this shawl, use two or more colors in repeating patterns.
You might also consider sewing the ends of the shawl together to form a capelet.
Shawl Knitting Instructions No. 2
For this shawl, you will need weight category 5 yarn, or bulky yarn. You will also need size 10.5 needles and a large-eye blunt needle. The gauge is 10 stitches = 4 inches.
First, cast on 63 stitches.
On the first row, knit 3 and purl 3 across the row, ending with knit 3.
Knit across the second row.
Repeat this pattern until you have about 80 inches of material, or to your desired length, and then bind off. Weave in the ends to finish your shawl.
If you like, you can add fringes to this shawl if you have a crochet needle. Cut pieces of yarn about 13 inches long and fold in half. Using your crochet needle at the yarn's fold, pull the yarn through the edge of shawl to form a loop. Then, pull both end of the yarn through the loop to form a snug knot.
You might also enjoy using different colors in a pattern throughout.
When you are finished, trim the yarn evenly to your desired length.
Experiment and have fun knitting your shawls!
