PostSubject: How to Make Knitted Dishcloths   Mon May 26, 2014 12:35 am

If you have not yet succumbed to the lure of knitting, learning the techniques behind creating simple knitted dishcloths may just be the thing to convert you.
Why Knit a Dishcloth?
Dishcloths are utilitarian. Try using a hand-knitted cloth and you will appreciate their gentle scrubbing power. Their practicality makes them great for gifts too. There are many non-knitters who know the durability and would love to receive one for a gift.
Knitted dishcloths are quick to create. When you want some instant gratification, reach for some cotton yarn and begin knitting. A simple dishcloth is a good practice project for beginning knitters. The more you knit, the faster and smoother your knitting will become. A dishcloth won't take you forever to finish, but will help hone your new skill.
Dishcloth knitting is a simple craft. When you want to take a break from a complicated color project, or want to knit while talking on the phone, a knitted cloth is perfect. Your hands will soon settle into a rhythm and you can multitask easily. This project is also easily portable and a great way to test a stitch pattern that you want to try out.
Prepare to Knit Your Dishcloth
Keep in mind that you don't have to use your finished cloth for dishes. It could be a face or washcloth. You can create unique washcloths for your children in their favorite colors. This way, they will have a special washcloth all their own. A dishcloth or washcloth should use a pattern with plenty of texture for cleaning ability. A facecloth could be made using a stockinette stitch.
Cotton yarn such as Sugar and Cream is traditional for dishcloths. Use metal or another very slick surfaced knitting needle. Cotton yarn does not slide easily and you don't want to fight with it. Use needles that are size 7 or 8.
Dishcloth Knitting Patterns
There are several excellent dishcloth knitting resources online. There are many friendly e-groups that knit special projects each month. Search online for groups or knitting blogs that can help hone your skills.
